Salmonella infection in a multiple-site swine production system in Brazil

چکیده
POSTER PRESENTATIONs Discussion: The odds ratio linking collection one status vs. collection two status of 2.6 suggests that herds positive for collection one were more than two times more likely to be positive on the subsequent shipment. However, this association was demonstrated when examining other pairs of results. The limited correlations between prevalence of samples one and two suggests that there is some repeatability. However, this relationship was moderate in strength, and also was not seen in other pairings.

Ambulant Market Foods: Consumer Problem or Solution?
Background: The sale of food by street vendors is an activity of economic, sanitary, and nutritional importance, but these foods can pose a high risk to the health of consumers in inadequate conditions of preparation and storage. The aim of this study was to investigate the preparation conditions and the hygienic-sanitary quality of food sold by street vendors in the vicinity of four campuse...
متن کاملRisk factors associated with Salmonella enterica prevalence in three-site swine production systems in North Carolina, USA.
The goal of this study was to identify risk factors associated with increased fecal shedding of Salmonella enterica (SE) in groups of market swine reared in large three-site production units. We conducted an intensive, long-term investigation of potential management and environmental risk factors operating during the growing phase of pig production. Data regarding finisher site characteristics,...
متن کاملSurvival, Proliferation and Cell Cycle of Swine Fibroblast after Infection with Salmonella enterica
Food-borne salmonellosis continues to be a major health concern worldwide. Carrycontamination of Salmonella frequently occurs in meat production. We focused on cell dynamics of swine fibroblasts after infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis and Typhimurium, because fibroblast can be a target cell for Salmonella latent infection. It was found that both S. Enteritidis and S. Typhim...
متن کاملIn-herd prevalence of Salmonella in 25 selected Minnesota swine farms
Materials and methods: 25 Minnesota swine herds were selected for the study. None of the participating farms identified clinical Salmonella as a problem in their operations. Ileocecal lymph nodes of swine from the 25 farms were collected repeatedly at slaughter by bluntly dissecting lymph nodes from the caudal mesentery. These nodes were macerated and cultured for Salmonella. inapparent infecti...
متن کاملEnvironmental prevalence and persistence of Salmonella spp. in outdoor swine wallows.
Swine can harbor Salmonella in their gastrointestinal tracts. It has been estimated that up to 48% of the U.S. swine herd may carry Salmonella. Housing sows in farrowing stalls has become controversial due to animal welfare-based criticisms. An alternative production system is to keep sows outdoors on pasture with access to individual farrowing huts. This study was designed to determine the eff...
